Hooray! Exciting! I have good news. Several items actually. 1 – I got married on June 14th to Amanda Kipp! We just got back from the Dominican Republic, which was amazing. And when I got back, I received the following good news from my editor Cara Lockwood:
Dear Sean,
Congratulations on the wedding and honeymoon! That’s really great.
I think you’re well on your way already down the path of publishing a novel! I’ve got your edits here. You should find my comments and suggestions in red track changes, both in the text and the margins of the document. Do let me know if they don’t appear, as sometimes computers don’t like talking with one another.
After reading Sunlight Parted, I have to say, I’m impressed. Is this your first novel? Because it reads like your fifth! You’ve crafted a wonderful novel here, with great emotional resonance and incredibly poignant moments throughout. You’ve got a talent for keeping the note of suspense taut through the telling of the tale, and by the end, I was still not quite sure what might happen. I’ve never read a sadder happy ending, but it all fit perfectly together.
Honestly, you may have a fine career ahead of you as the next Nicholas Sparks, and I mean that in the best way possible. You tell an amazing love story without making it sappy or too saccharin, and you manage to draw the reader in with high emotional stakes and an incredibly interesting take on life and death. I found it so meaningful, I got teary there at the end! Books don’t usually affect me so directly, so yours packs a heck of an emotional punch. Bravo!
