Inattentive Rain

I can’t pretend it’s just a fable playing out inside
Or just a feeling on the rise simply trying to hide
And every time I feel the water falling all around
It wraps around me on the way to forgotten ground

But on my skin it burns with the touch of the sun
A pain I can’t escape no matter how fast I run
And so I stand there all alone in this ocean of pain
Screaming out the story to the inattentive rain
